As you may be aware, the word Eucharist comes from the Greek for “thanksgiving”—in the gospel story this Sunday Christ “gives thanks” at his last supper.

Of all the amazing things that are reported of Jesus in the gospels, only one is so phenomenal that it manages to get recorded in all four accounts.

Jesus graciously welcomed them and talked to them about the kingdom of God. Those who needed healing, he healed.

It was First Communion preparation day at our parish school—a day when the classroom’s textbook material comes to life as the children bake bread, sing their special songs, make a craft for homebound parishioners, and participate in a Last Supper reflection.

We pray in the merciful presence of God.

What do we “remember”? Saint Paul cited the words that Jesus used at the Last Supper in the Gospel of Luke: “Do this in remembrance of me.”
