Problems logging in or accessing files

If you are having problems logging into PREPARE THE WORD, please make sure that you are using the email address and password that we have on file for you.

If you have forgotten your log-in, you may select the forgot my user name or password link, and we will email you instructions of how to reset your online access. Please check your spam/junk folder if you do not receive the reset email in your inbox

Please be sure to add and to your email address book/contact list. These are the email addresses that are used to send you regular updates and important notices.

Find previous issues

There are several convenient ways to access our vast library of information from previous issues of PREPARE THE WORD:

1. If you are already reading a particular Sunday issue and want to find all material relating to that Sunday from the same cycle in previous years, you can click the name of the Sunday (when you hover your cursor over the name of the Sunday, a dialogue box that reads, "Find all content related to ..." will appear). Previous years' content will show up in the resulting search. You can then click the name of the Sunday to read its contents. The dates for the Sundays appear under the tags.

2. If you are already reading any Sunday, you will see on the right-hand side of the screen a "Sundays Library." You can then click the plus button to expand a year, and then click the month you would like to see.

3. Hover your cursor over the words "Homily prep" (at the top of every page of the PREPARE THE WORD site), then "Past weeks," then "Sundays." At the bottom of the page that appears, you will see all past issues of PREPARE THE WORD organized by year. Please click on the year you are interested in, then you can either open each Sunday individually or view the full month's worth of Sundays.

4. Type in the name of the Sunday you are looking for in the grey search box at the very top of the PREPARE THE WORD site. For best results, please spell out ordinal numbers. For example: "Eighteenth Sunday" (instead of 18th Sunday). A page of search results will appear. To narrow down these results, under "Limit results to the following ..." click the box next to Sundays.


To access past issues of Take Five for Faith:

Within any Take Five landing page, you will see on the right-hand side of the screen a "Take Five Library." You can then click the plus button to expand a year, and then click the month you would like to see.

Print an issue as a pdf

It's easy to save a Sunday or month's worth of issues as a pdf. Simply click the blue "print" button, then under destination, select "save as pdf," then click "save."

This may vary slightly from browser to browser (Google Chrome, Interner Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). In some browsers, you may have to select pdf from a printer menu.

NOTE: You must be logged into PREPARE THE WORD in order to print an issue or save it as a pdf.

How to whitelist Prepare the Word

Not receiving all or some of our emails? Let us help.

If you are a Prepare the Word subscriber but are not receiving emails from us, here are some steps you can take to try and fix the problem:

1. Check your spam/junk mail folder

Sometimes the solution is as simple as that: the spam detection feature of your email program is being over-diligent, and you will find our newsletters tucked away in the junk mail folder. If so, select all the Prepare the Word emails and look for the button to indicate that they are not spam. Often this is enough to let the program know that these are emails you are interested in.

2. Add us to your contacts and/or Safe Sender list

This is known as whitelisting, and on many email programs is achieved by a combination of removing mails from the junk mail folder, and adding the sender address to a list of known good addresses.

Note that you should whitelist both and to ensure that you receive our weekly updates as well as critical notifications from our website regarding your subscription.

See instructions for:


  1. ​Click the Show search options downward-pointing triangle in your Gmail's main search field.
  2. Type the desired email address under From.
  3. To whitelist mail from Prepare the Word, type
  4. Follow the Create filter with this search ›› link at the bottom of the search sheet.
  5. Make sure Never send it to Spam is checked.
  6. Click Create filter.
  7. Repeat this process to whitelist our email server,

Yahoo! Mail

  1. Check your Yahoo! Spam folder. If you see email from someone you want to add to your whitelist, select it and click Not Spam.
  2. Create a filter to automatically send email from certain domains to your Inbox.
  3. Hover over the gear wheel in the top right corner, and click Settings.
  4. Select Filters from the list on the left of the panel that opens.
  5. Click the Add button.
  6. For Filter Name write Prepare the Word, and enter in box below, corresponding to Sender Contains.
  7. Then click Save to create the new filter, and Save again to save the new settings.
  8. Repeat this process to whitelist our email server, (hotmail)

  1. Check your Junk folder. If you see email from someone you want to add to your whitelist, open it and click Wait, it's safe!
  2. Then go to Inbox, open the same mail, and click Add to contacts next to the sender address.

Others has basic instructions for most common email clients.

3. Let us know there is a problem.

Email us at this address with "blocked" in the subject line. We will get in touch to see if you need help carrying out the following steps. If you don't hear from us within one working day, it's time to call us at 312-356-9900.

4. Ask your IT department to unblock/whitelist all mails coming from

If you are part of an academic or religious institution, it is possible that your organization's network administrators are unwittingly preventing you from receiving our newsletters, or may alternatively be able to help you carry out other steps in this guide. We are happy to answer any of their questions, or help in any way we can to re-establish delivery.

5. Ask your ISP to unblock/whitelist all mails coming from

Your ISP, or Internet Service Provider, are the people who you pay (or who your organization pays) for your connection to the internet. They may have subscribed to a spam prevention service, in which case it is important that we learn which service they are using so that we can register with them to ensure that our newsletters get through to our subscribers. If you can put us in touch with your ISP, that will be a great help.
