Scripture this week has a lot to do with the movements of God and the response of people. God can enter your life and the lives of those around you—this we know because the Creator crossed over into creation in an unprecedented way in Christ.

We like Zacchaeus. Doggone it, we do. He’s the American brand of hero: small, unexpected, and unpromising at the start. He’s the scrappy little player who’s going to make it by the skin of his teeth. And we’ll be rooting for him every step of the way.

Zach was the co-worker who made life miserable for everyone in the office. He spent the better part of his days playing video games and made others work late to cover for him. He repeatedly ran over budget and blamed mistakes and excessive spending on junior partners.

Pope Francis, in his interview early in his papacy, was asked “Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio?” His answer after much thought was: “I am a sinner who the Lord has looked upon.

The whole universe is but a grain in a balance, but the Creator shows mercy on us all. Let us call to mind our sins and ask for God's forgiveness.

Sometimes it takes only one act of kindness and caring to change a person's life.
