In his First Letter to the Corinthians Saint Paul warned of the danger of factions and conflict in the church.

Sometimes we can’t hear the truth the first time it comes around. Maybe it arrives as an inconvenient fact in a scientific survey. It simply can’t be true that our favorite food or pastime is bad for us!

When Jesus got word that John had been arrested, he returned to Galilee. He moved from his hometown, Nazareth, to the lakeside village Capernaum, nestled at the base of the Zebulun and Naphtali hills.

When I was 12 years old, my class went on an overnight retreat run by monks. Caught up in the emotion and religious fervor of the moment, we each prayed, “Please, Lord, help me to spread your word.”

Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
