Wisdom 7:7-11 Solomon seeks wisdom more than any other spiritual gift to help him become a ruler.

Hebrews 4:12-13 The discerning word of God cannot be deceived nor deflected from its purpose.

Mark 10:17-30 A morally perfect man is challenged by Jesus to greater union with God.

Rules have their place. As Alice Camille said in PrepareTheWord’s “Exploring the Word” for September 2, “External rules are clearly intended to impress on minds and hearts what hands are doing.” Get in the habit of giving, for example, and in time that will help make you a more generous person.
