November can feel like a very “American” month. Election Day (4—not as big a deal as last year) is followed by Veterans Day (11), Thanksgiving (27), and Native American Heritage Day (28).
This week we explore sacred precincts. The sacred is not remote and disconnected from us. We are watered by its springs that bring new life in abundance.
What would you include on a list of holy places: Jerusalem? Rome? The local cathedral?
I’ve always struggled with the image of Jesus making a whip and flipping tables. I prefer him gentle and kind, always welcoming and forgiving. This scene of raw anger unsettles me.
“I get to empty the trash this week!” said my elated second-grade daughter.
As we prepare to build up God's church by celebrating the mystery of Christ’s love, let us acknowledge our failures and ask the Lord forgiveness.
