There's something sobering about September. Summer ends, school is in full swing, and as we honor our labor (2), we're aware it's time to pick up the pace all around.

To follow Jesus involves self-denial.

Who wants to suffer? If anyone raises a hand, back away and call an attending physician. Suffering is not a desirable condition, and those who possess mental health not only don’t seek it, but actively avoid it.

It had been a long day of teaching, then a wake service in a far suburb, topped off by traffic slowing my way back to the rectory.

A quick run through the supermarket wasn’t the place Jennifer expected to learn a lesson in faith, but faith overtook her one Thursday in the checkout line.

My sisters and brothers, to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries let us ask forgiveness for the times we have turned our backs on the Lord.
