All for one and one for all! God’s relationship with his creation is faithful; he is bound to it. Whom are you bound to in your life? Is it unbreakable?

An elderly man confided to his priest the secret of his answered intercessions. “I always pray to the Faddah, the Son, and the Muddah!” As Trinities go, this one is hard to beat. Though we might quibble about terms, envisioning God as divine family is both accurate and helpful.

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was.

You may remember back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, people would sometimes hold up signs that read “John 3:16” at football games. More recently, when outspoken Christian quarterback Tim Tebow played for the Florida Gators, he wrote “John 3:16” on his eye black in a championship game.

Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

We are not soul freelancers but beings created to dance in the arms of the Trinity.
