To follow Jesus involves self-denial.

When we are called upon to perform a heroic work of charity, the excuses start popping up like Whac-a-Mole. I can’t afford it. I don’t have the money. I’m on a fixed income. The rent is due.

Who wants to suffer? If anyone raises a hand, back away and call an attending physician. Suffering is not a desirable condition, and those who possess mental health not only don’t seek it, but actively avoid it.

A quick run through the supermarket wasn’t the place Jennifer expected to learn a lesson in faith, but faith overtook her one Thursday in the checkout line. Jennifer had figured on just swinging by the market to grab a few things before picking up the kids at school.

If we but die with Christ, we will also rise with him. If we take up our cross and follow him, he will lead us to salvation and glory. Pray now for the faith to believe this truth.
