Matthew 21:1-11  Jesus receives a hero’s welcome in the city where he will be put to death.

Isaiah 50:4-7  The prophet speaks words of hope, but receives brutality and shame.

Syrian war turns toxic

As his disciples rushed to defend him from arrest in Palm Sunday’s gospel of the Passion of the Lord, Jesus warns them that, “All who take the sword will perish by the sword.” History has borne out the truth of the statement, and Syria’s agonizing civil war is no exception.
