Fact of the week

Forty-six executions were carried out in the U.S. in 2010, less than half the all-time high of 98 in 1999. Also cut in half since the 1980s was the number of convicted murders sent to death row, the Death Penalty Information Center (DPIC) reported. A DPIC poll also found that 61 percent of registered voters said they would favor nonlethal punishment for murder.
