The month of May has two secular dedications, both important at this time. Since 1949, May has been designated to highlight Mental Health Awareness. As one in five U.S. adults experience mental illness annually and less than half receive treatment, it's worth raising consciousness in the parish.

John Joseph, who received the 2001 Catholic Campaign for Human Development’s Cardinal Bernardin New Leadership Award for his race relations and anitpoverty work while a student at Ole Miss, said in accepting his award, “Our love for others demonstrates that we recognize God’s love for us.”

Religious claims are a dime a dozen. You think Hindus and Mormons believe some outrageous things? Try Catholics. Virgin Birth, heaven and hell, the resurrection of the dead—none of that has a shred of “evidence” to back it up.

I didn’t take a single photo in 2023. I barely noticed that I had stopped doing something I loved, but it was one of the hardest years I’ve ever had (and I’ve had some doozies).

My cousin decided to become a cop. She was 39 years old, and the cutoff to enter the academy is 40. She smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish before she decided to make this startling career shift.

Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

Hold back nothing of yourself for yourself, so that He who gives Himself totally to you may receive you totally.
