Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, Cycle A

Penitential Act & Prayer of the Faithful

Penitential Act

Invitation

My sisters and brothers in Christ, we celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord, the revealing of Jesus' divinity to the world. We pray for the grace to seek him, as the magi did.

Invocations

  • Lord Jesus, you call us to worship you and follow you. Lord, have mercy.
  • Christ Jesus, the mystery of your salvation goes out to all people. Christ, have mercy.
  • Lord Jesus, you proclaim a reign of justice and peace. Lord, have mercy.

Prayer of the Faithful

The universal prayer

Our Lord Jesus Christ has revealed to the nations his saving power. Pray with me for the world that we may walk together in the light of Christ.

  • For our holy Catholic Church: May we walk together in faith following the star of our hope; may God lead us all to the presence of Christ, we pray to the Lord.
  • For our nation and the nations of all the world: May God lead us to peace; may we discover in diversity the unity of our common humanity in Christ, we pray to the Lord.
  • For our community, that God may bless us in hope: May we be a welcoming presence to all who come to us in peace, seeking a spiritual home among us, we pray to the Lord.
  • For the sacred dignity of human life, that we may always protect the lives of the unborn, the dying, the poor, the criminal, and the enemy from the violence of the powerful, we pray to the Lord.

Father in heaven, we give you thanks that you have revealed to the eyes of faith the radiant presence of your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to seek him in all that we do. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
