In a dream, God tells Solomon to "ask for something" and God promises to give it to him. If God made that offer to you in a dream, what would you ask for?

On what do people put value? The readings today speak to this question. God praises Solomon for seeing how longevity, riches, property, and revenge are so much less important than the gift of understanding to know what is right.

We know that all things work for good for those who love God, scripture tells us today. We ask for the gift of that love so that all things in our lives will work together for the good.

Do you understand all these things? The gospel for the past three Sundays has come from Jesus' long discourse on the kingdom in the Gospel of Matthew. In these passages Christ has compared the kingdom to many things: a sower who went out to sow, a field sown with weeds as well as wheat, a mustard seed, yeast, and today a buried treasure, a pearl of great price, and a catch of fish.
