Turn toward the light of Christ; be one with God the Father with the Holy Spirit. Praise and exalt the name of God throughout the ages, and God be with you and all those you greet.

Happily what Moses discovers is a Lord worth getting to know better. God reveals the divine personality in a series of surprising words: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, big on kindness and faithfulness. The Invisible Man at the top of the mountain turns out to be rather a sweetheart kind of a guy. Who knew?

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life

“Her son’s killer stood on a chair on the gallows, his hands shackled, the noose around his neck,” reported Amir Vahdat and Adam Schreck in a story for the Associated Press. “Hundreds crowded outside the jailhouse in the northern Iranian town of Royan to see whether the mother would exercise her right to kick the chair out from under the condemned to let him hang.”

Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

There is in the readings this weekend a theme of proclamation, both in the words God speaks and in those Moses speaks about God, and also in the words of the first of Jesus’ “discourses” we hear in John’s gospel.

Fathers come in all shapes and sizes; some are strict, others lenient; some are very present in the lives of their children, others absent; some have left inspiring legacies for their children; others have left scars; some mean well, others do well.
