This month, the Holy Year calendar observes a Jubilee of the Armed Forces, Police and Security Personnel (8-9); a Jubilee of Artists (16-18); and one for Deacons (21-23). How might your parish recognize and honor those in your community who serve in these ways?

Blessedness is not conditional. It’s always available.

There are two kinds of people, as the saying usually begins. And scripture tends to bear this out with numerous points of comparisons between the just and the wicked, or the wise person and the fool.

I schlepped a lot of guilt with me up the hill as we climbed the Mount of Beatitudes. I was part of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and had gladly agreed to lead music for our daily Masses. 

I stood atop a mesa in New Mexico from where I could see for miles. I was struck by the contrast between the vast stretches of barren desert and the narrow band of abundant life skirting the bank of a dry river bed.

With gratitude for our many blessings, let us ask the Father’s forgiveness for our sins.

When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.
