Researchers roll back the stone on Jesus’ tomb

The empty tomb is a big part of the story of Jesus’ death and Resurrection, themes that are central to this Sunday’s readings, which focus on Jesus as the "firstborn of the dead,” as the Gospel Alleluia says, quoting the Book of Revelation. In the innermost chamber of the site said to be the tomb of Jesus, a restoration team has peeled away a marble layer for the first time in centuries in an effort to reach what it believes is the original rock surface where Jesus' body was laid.
