Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A

Penitential Act & Prayer of the Faithful

Penitential Act

Invitation

The Lord is our light and our salvation. We ask for the grace to receive and reflect that light to the world around us.

Invocations

  • Lord Jesus, let there be no divisions among us. Lord, have mercy.
  • Christ Jesus, lift the burdens we and others bear. Christ, have mercy.
  • Lord Jesus, make us proclaimers of your gospel and healing presences for all your creation. Lord, have mercy.

Prayer of the Faithful

The universal prayer

Jesus calls us to repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand. Pray that we may leave behind the things of this passing world and follow Christ in the way of the coming kingdom.

  • For our pope, our bishop, and all the bishops, and for our parish leaders, that they may join with the apostles in becoming fishers of people, we pray to the Lord.
  • For our world, that nations in conflict may sit down together at the table of reconciliation and discover peaceful ways to resolve their differences, we pray to the Lord.
  • For the people of our nation oppressed by the ravages of winter storms, that they may find help and comfort among the people of God, we pray to the Lord.
  • For all who suffer from disease and illness of every kind, that God may bless them and heal them and that they may be restored to their families and communities, we pray to the Lord.

Father, we give you thanks that you have called us to be witnesses of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Help us to always proclaim his gospel of your kingdom, where he is Lord for ever and ever. Amen.
