The author of the book of the prophet Isaiah promises that the “shoot of Jesse” will bring a "spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength.” Members of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and fellow protesters at the site of the Dakota Access Pipeline are calling on pipeline builders and authorities to exercise wisdom and understanding and divert the pipeline from what the protesters consider sacred grounds.

“In my opinion, we need to begin now to talk about how we are going to eventually arrive at a peaceful resolution of the situation and restore the relationship between North Dakota and the Standing Rock people.”

Thirty-eight miles of the Dakota Access Pipeline cuts through territory that still belongs to Native Americans, based on a 1851 treaty signed at Fort Laramie in Wyoming.
