SUNDAY SUMMARY

Isaiah 58:7-10  Israel becomes a people-covenant, a light that arrives as faithful as the dawn.

Psalm 112:4-5, 6-7, 8-9 (4a)  One just person brings light to the dark place and creates a lasting legacy.

1 Corinthians 2:1-5  The cross of Christ is all that matters to Paul, since he counts on God’s power alone.

Matthew 5:13-16  Salt preserves, and light reveals. Together, these qualities describe the true disciple.

Locked-in no longer means shut out or silenced

“I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom,” Saint Paul says to the Corinthian community in this Sunday’s second reading. Patients who are “locked-in,” left wordless because of complete paralysis, have new hope thanks to a novel procedure in which an international team of scientists has communicated with completely locked-in patients using a noninvasive brain-computer interface system.
