SUNDAY SUMMARY

Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4  Destruction and violence are the backdrop of the prophet’s generation.

Psalm 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9  Hardened hearts will miss the invitation to divine joy and rescue.

2 Timothy 1:6-8, 13-14  Holy leadership overcomes cowardice and embraces power, love, and self-control.

Luke 17:5-10  Faith only increases in its exercise.

Hail Colombia!

This Sunday’s first reading sounds like something that could have been written in the long-suffering, war-torn nation of Colombia: “How long, O LORD? I cry for help but you do not listen! I cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not intervene. Why do you let me see ruin; why must I look at misery? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and clamorous discord.” Yet that lament may well be coming to an end for the people of Colombia.
